Taking forward the mission of the ongoing Digital India Week, the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), a body with the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), Ministry of Communications & IT, Government of India spread the message of digital literacy to more than 10,000 participants from across the country through its Smart Virtual Classroom facility. Over 418 NIELIT Regional Centers, Accreditation Institutions and Facilitation Centers from all corners of India, including Dantewada, Gumati, Dumka, Madhubani, Jehanabad, Bandipore, Srinagar, Calicut, Ranchi, Patna, Aizawl, Guwahati, Jorhat, Imphal, Itanagr, Ajmer, Chennai, Mauha(Gujarat), Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and others were connected through A-VIEW, a web based online platform used to seamlessly connect multiple units in the VC facility. The session highlighted the significance of the national projects under the Digital India program-a flagship program of the Govt. of India that seeks to convert India into a knowledge economy.

Kick-starting the week long campaign planned by NIELIT under ‘Digital India Week’, Dr. Ashwini Kumar Sharma, Managing Director, NIELIT extolled the use of technology in change management, process re-engineering and digital literacy of masses in rural India especially in villages. He further added that each of us should be an integral part of this paradigm for promoting awareness about the various components of Digital India.

NIELIT has trained over 20 lakh students in the last two decades across 31 NIELIT centres besides a network of about 900 accredited training partners and nearly 6000 facilitation centres. More than 9 lakh candidates have been skilled by NIELIT in 2013-14 as against about 4 lakh in the previous year (2012-13).  Due to high quality of standards, many Universities have accorded recognition to NIELIT’s non-formal courses, for lateral entry to formal courses, such as MCA, MBA etc.  However, in-line with the Government’s thrust on the Digital India Campaign, NIELIT has also set an ambitious target of training 55 lakh students in ICT for jobs, ESDM and Digital Marketing courses in the coming 4-5 years.
