What to expect from the next generation of Apple’s newest iPhone?

September 12 is the day we were looking forward to. It’s the day that marks the 10th anniversary of Apple’s iconic phone. After months of speculation and suspense, Apple’s newest iPhone will finally be unveiled at the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park, in Cupertino, California. This is the first time, an event will be held at the Steve Jobs Theater to grace its anniversary. However, the focus doesn’t shift anywhere and everyone’s curiosity is solely on the much anticipated iPhone. Mark your calendar for the September 12 at 10 am PDT (10.30 pm IST) to find out Apple’s latest offerings. The time difference would vary depending on which region you reside.

Let’s take a closer look at what we know so far and what to expect from the iPhone 8. Indubitably this year, this iPhone will never be the same that we have seen in the past.

Variants
A trio of iPhones is expected to launch, which will be named as – iPhone X, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.

Design
Apple will undergo a complete revamp, in terms of design and look of the phone, that we have never seen before. This is the biggest change to appear on the new iPhone. The front of the new iPhone will be an all display phone with an edge-to-edge screen, similarly like the Samsung Galaxy S8, LG V30. It suggests the iPhone X will be the first ever Apple phone to feature an OLED display, with True Tone technology. The remaining two phones will come with an LCD display.
OLED display makes the screen looks punchier, black looks deep black, colours are vibrant and less battery utilization as compared to LCD screens. Furthermore, the back will come with a glass body and the border will be in stainless steel.

Touch ID gives a skip
Last year, Apple skipped the headphone jack, and this time around, they plan on giving the Home button a complete miss. The leaks suggest that a front facing camera will be located with a cutout at the top of the screen. The camera is believed to possess an advanced 3D facial recognition for face scanning, replacing the Touch ID sensor. This technology clouds a lot of doubts about the Touch ID. As far as we know, Apple couldn’t produce the technology in time to build the under- display sensor. It leaves us with a list of possibilities- Build the Touch ID directly into the display, which looks unlikely. Integrate the sensor at the back of the phone that seems like a probability. Lastly, skip the fingerprint sensor completely and bank on the front facing camera for biometric authentication.

Camera
Similarly like the iPhone 7 Plus, the dual rear camera will feature in the iPhone X. The only difference is that it will be in a vertical form. According to Steve Stroughton-Smith claim, the iPhone X will feature a 12MP dual rear camera with 4K recording support and a 7MP front camera with 1080p video recording support. The telephoto lens quality will also be improved. With the help of 3D system integrated, it is expected that the auto focus will be very accurate.

iOS 11
Apple will roll out a new operating service, iOS 11, a new gesture based user interface and Animojis (animated emojis).

Upgraded processor, RAM and storage
With major upgrades in most of the departments, Apple won’t take a backseat and plans to upgrade the processor and integrate it with an A11 chipset. The RAM also will be upgraded to a 3GB RAM and we will see the 2GB RAM in the other variants. Supposedly Apple may also ditch the 32GB version and move to a higher storage facility of 512GB, keeping the 64GB, 128GB 256GB versions intact.

Wireless charging
The new iPhones in all likelihood will receive a battery bump, in terms of mAh. Finally, the brand will also feature Wireless charging with “Qi” wireless technology, used by Android manufacturers.

Waterproof and dust resistance
The new iPhones just like its siblings will be waterproof and dust resistant. Although it is expected to be enhanced, we still need to wait and see what will be the IP certification?

These are all rumours for now. Just like every year, expect this year launch with a pinch of salt. Apart from the iPhones, Apple also plans on launching other products such as – Apple Watch with LTE support, Next gen AirPods and a 4K TV. The pre-orders for the iPhone will begin from September 15 and shipping from September 22.
