Huawei adds Mate 10, Pro and a “Special Porsche Edition” to its flagship segment.

It has been a norm for the past few years for Huawei to unveil the flagship model Mate series around November. The announcement of the Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro will sit at the highest end of its flagship lineup. Call it perfect timing or coincidence, but launching it before time makes absolute sense and adds to the competition in the mobile market. There have been some major upgrades and significant changes to its latest offerings, keeping with the trend of 2017. Oops! Huawei also joins the party of skipping the headphone jack. We can just hope for one thing now, what’s new then and how does it stack up against other flagships of 2017?

The Huawei Mate 10 and Pro have a few dissimilarities – screen size, shape, storage, placement of fingerprint sensor and headphone jack. The Mate 10 will feature a 5.9 inch (2560 x 1440 pixels) LCD display with 16:9 aspect screen ratio, while the Mate 10 Pro comes with a 6 inch (2160 x 1080 pixels) OLED display with 18:9 screen ratio. The Mate 10 is 8.2 mm thick, sporting the fingerprint sensor below the screen, and the Mate 10 Pro is 7.9 mm thick with the fingerprint sensor around the back of the phone. Fortunately, one of the phones features the headphone jack that is the Mate 10 and other, which is the Mate 10 Pro skips the headphone jack.

Apart from the differences, both the phones are similarly specced on papers. Both

the phones will feature a front and back glass, holding it with a metal frame. They both feature, the in-house Kirin 970 processor, 4 gigabytes of RAM, 4000 mAh of battery, Leica dual cameras lens – with the primary camera sporting a 20-megapixel colour sensor and the secondary camera featuring a 12-megapixel monochrome sensor to capture every detail with f/1.6 aperture. The front-facing camera of both the phones features an 8-megapixel camera with f/2.0 aperture. Moreover, the Pro has an additional variant with 6 gigabytes of RAM and 128 GB storage. However, the Mate 10 makes it up with a micro SD card in return, which will give you storage up to 256 GB. Just like every other smartphone, both the phones will have a USB Type C port. It won’t be the first phone, but to our delight, it will run on Android Oreo v8.0 out of the box. Lastly, these phones will be IP67 certified, which make the phones dust, water and splash resistant.

In terms of specialities, it’s competing with the likes of Apple with Augmented Reality and Samsung with dock desktop, wherein you can use your mobile as a desktop dock. The Kirin 970 chip, just like the Apple’s A11 Bionic chip, is designed to handle AI tasks, with the help of neural processing unit. Huawei has hit the bull’s eye as you wouldn’t need a separate device to dock. You can plug your phone directly into the computer with a cable and get the power of desktop environment. Moreover, you can use your phone normally when the phone will double up to work as a larger monitor.

Similarly like last year, Huawei will launch a special edition, dubbed as the “Porsche Edition”. It sets apart from the Mate 10 models with a diamond black finish, 6 gigabytes of RAM and 256 GB of storage.

Huawei Mate 10 will retail at $824 USD, Mate 10 Pro at $942 USD and a whopping $1,645 USD for the Porsche Special Edition.

There is no news on when it will be out in stores and whether or not, it will hit the Indian market. Although, Huawei doesn’t intend to have a US launch.

The Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro looks too classy on papers worthy competing with the iPhone X, Google Pixel 2 XL, Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and LG V30. Please comment below if you would like to see this phone coming to India.
