OnePlus 5T gets bigger and better!

The company finally pulled off the wraps from the OnePlus 5T at an event in Brooklyn, New York. It was widely anticipated as the rumours did not seem to end and the production of the OnePlus 5 was stopped.  The device in India will retail at INR 32,999 for the 6GB RAM/ 64GB inbuilt storage variant and INR 37,999 for the 8GB RAM/ 128GB inbuilt storage variant and will only be available in only one colour for now, i.e. Midnight Black. The smartphone will be available to purchase through Amazon.in and also via the OnePlus online store in India. Moreover, the smartphone will first go on sale exclusively for Amazon Prime members at 4:30 p.m. IST on November 21. It will be open and available to all the markets, comprising of Europe, the US as well as India, starting from November 28. This goes to show how the company truly values India by being unbiased.

For those, who cannot get their hands-on the newly launched, Apple iPhone X, the OnePlus 5T is a great substitute and can be called upon, as it is a poor man’s, iPhone X.

The highlights of the device, which sets it apart from its predecessor is a 6-inch OLED bezel-less display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and the Face Unlock feature. Staying with the trend of 2017 with dual camera setup and bezel-less display, and whilst all the phones skipped the headphone jack with the likes of Samsung, Apple, Google, Huawei and Lenovo; OnePlus decided to stick with the headphone jack, although the urge to miss it out was high. It is a brave move on the company’s part and a hard slap to its competitors, which implies you do not need to take the headphone jack out to make the phone slimmer nor do you need to compromise on the battery mAh. Apart from that, the OnePlus 5T and OnePlus 5 share similar specs.

To recap, the OnePlus 5T boasts a 6-inch OLED bezel-less display with a new 18:9 aspect ratio for the very first time. Weirdly enough, the resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels is a little bizarre, but the brand suggests, it is done in favour of tuning colour rendering with a broad set of colour calibration options, including sRGB. Similarly like the OnePlus 5, it will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset with two variants to choose from – 6GB RAM with 64GB onboard storage and 8GB RAM with 128GB inbuilt storage. However, there won’t be a slot for a microSD memory expansion.

Coming to the optics, it will sport a Dual camera setup with 16-megapixel and 20-megapixel rear cameras to focus on low-light and portrait photography and 16-megapixel front-facing camera for shooters. The front camera will also aid in Face ID authentication, previously seen in Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and Apple iPhone X. The secondary rear camera upgrades the aperture to f/1.7 and focal length to 27.22mm – the same as the primary sensor.

The slider button to control notification still stays, as well as the headphone jack. The battery will be backed by 3,300 mAh with proprietary Dash Charge feature for fast charging. Connectivity options  includes – 4G VoLTE, dual-band (2.4GHz, 5GHz), Wi-Fi 802.11ac with MIMO 2×2, Bluetooth v5.0 with aptX and aptX HD, NFC, GPS/ A-GPS and a USB Type-C  port.

Going to the software, unfortunately, the OnePlus 5T will ship with Android Nougat v7.1.1 out of the box, skinned atop with OxygenOS 4.7. It will receive Android Oreo v8.0, possibly by the end of the year.

The OnePlus 5T absolutely does not only get bigger but also gets better. With some new additions such as bezel-less display and Face ID, which makes its way for the very first time in OnePlus devices, indicates a clear dig at its rivals. We also need to keep in mind, how the company is treating us by the shipping standards, not neglecting the Indian markets. Leave your thoughts below about what you feel about the OnePlus 5T.
