The feature, Instant Tethering is now part of Chrome OS 71 “Better Together” initiative. This is pretty useful for people who own/work with an Android phone and Chromebook combo. To use this feature, users need to go to Settings->Google-> Instant Tethering. On Taping ‘Provide data connection’ will initiate the host device, and tapping ‘Get data connection’ prepares the receiving device. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi must remain ON throughout the process.

You can automatically share a cellular data connection between devices via Wi-Fi when they’re signed into the same Google Account. Instant Tethering feature also comes with an auto shutdown function which will automatically switch off the tethering after 10 minutes of the inactive state. With this feature, Google is completely trying to eradicate the manual on/off or entering the WiFi credentials. Google is planning to extend this to other smartphones in the coming days.
