Bored of Twitter? Well, it is time to try Vine, which is being called the Instagram for video.

Twitter has launched the iOS app for Vine, but currently it can be used only on the iPhone and iPod touch. But there is no doubt that more devices are on the way. If an app for Android, which is pretty much an inevitability these days, happens anytime soon, then this could be the next big thing in the world of social media.

The idea is to capture short videos of anything and post them online. But like the 140-word character limit on Twitter, Vine limits video lengths to six seconds.

“Posts on Vine are about abbreviation – the shortened form of something larger. They’re little windows into the people, settings, ideas and objects that make up your life. They’re quirky, and we think that’s part of what makes them so special,” says the Vine blog.

While you can log in with Twitter, the app is also for people who are not members of the micro-blogging site. Twitter’s video hosting service has been anticipated ever since it acquired Vine, a three-man video-sharing start-up based in New York, last October. The company started in June 2012 and never actually launched its own app.

TUB Verdict: With twitter getting a bit annoying and Instagram being a bully thanks to Facebook, it’s time to welcome Vine with open cam 😉
