We await 1st April every year to be tricked by Google in pulling April Fool pranks. For this year, Google product launch of April 1, 2013 is Google Nose, which Google says is “The new scentsation in search”.
According to the product description, Google Nose, that is still in beta, leverages new and existing technologies to offer the sharpest olfactory experience available. Google’s Street Sense vehicles have inhaled and indexed millions of atmospheric miles and Android Ambient Odour Detection collects smells via the world’s most sensible mobile operating system. Google Nose also includes SMELLCD 1.8+ high-resolution compatible (whatever that is) for precise and controlled odours.
With Google Nose users can go beyond type, talk, and touch for a new notation of sensation. The Google Knowledge Panels can pair images, descriptions, and aromas. Google Nose search also includes SafeSearch, to keep users away from unwarranted smells.
Google also announced the launch of scratch and sniff books, Google Foodles (Google’s food themed doodles now enhanced with smell), self-driving new car smell and YouTube nosed captions.
As part of its series of April Fool’s Day pranks in 2012 Google had announced Really Advanced Search and also ‘Quest’ that converted Google Maps images into an 8-bit video game adventure. Quest was said to be Google’s best April Fool’s Day prank ever. This year Google has added a new treasure map mode on Google Maps.
This year, in addition to Google Nose, YouTube has posted a video announcing that the eight-year-old site that is now the world’s most popular online video destination is downing its shutters for a decade. But before it deletes all those millions of hours of video, YouTube has also empanelled judges to select that one definitive video that and the the winner will be declared when the website goes back online in 2023.
Google+, Google’s social networking service, lets users add emoticons to their photos. At Gmail, there’s Gmail Blue and on Google Analytics you can see how many visitors from the International Space Station – Control Room are currently visiting your site.

TUB Verdict: If Google could make your eyes see the new dimension with the Google Goggles and make your shoe talk with the Google Shoe then this prank might not be a prank for long.
