Now that you have gone through the specs, let’s have a look at its closet competition the OnePlus Nord 5G smartphone.

I must admit that we are calling OnePlus Nord 5G its closest competition even though it comes at a 7K price difference (for the 128GB variant) and that really means a different segment. But at the same time, Moto g 5G even though a more affordable device comes with even better features than the OnePlus Nord 5G. So let us look at those features and then decide if the Moto G 5G really offers more than the competition at a price lower or not?

Moto g 5G - OnePlus Nord 5G

The first and foremost is how the smartphone performs so first let’s check out what’s under the hood of these smartphones.
You would be glad to know that the Moto g 5G is India’s first Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 750G smartphone which delivers 27% faster GPU performance than the Snapdragon 765G which powers the OnePlus Nord 5G. And don’t be confused by the nomenclature by Qualcomm and think that the 765G is superior to the 750G as the numbers suggest. On the contrary, the 750G is the latest and more efficient 7 series chipset than anything available in the 7xx series.

The Snapdragon 750G 5G is also better across popular performance benchmarks like AnTuTu 8, Geekbench 5 (Single & Multi-Core). The Snapdragon 750G 5G uses the latest Cortex A77 architecture with 2 x Kryo 570 Gold Cores for enhanced performance -vs- the earlier Cortex A76 architecture with Kryo 475 cores on the SD765G. The GPU of the SD750G is clocked at 950Mhz -vs- 750Mhz for the SD765G giving better graphics and gaming performance on the SD750G.

The benchmark tests prove that the Moto g 5G is the most powerful 5G smartphone under 25K that you can buy in India.
But it’s not just about the performance! It is the holistic experience that makes a smartphone great. That translates to better connectivity, battery storage, display, camera, software and ultimately the price you have to pay for it.

In terms of connectivity, both these smartphones are equipped with 5G connectivity but Motorola, being the first to launch a 5G device back in April 2019, have mastered the domain of 5G connectivity and have launched the Moto g 5G with support for 11 Global 5G Network Bands. This simply means that you are ready for any Sub 6 5G Band that is launched in India. And I will tell you why it makes a lot of sense to buy a smartphone with more 5G network bands. First and foremost, we are not sure what 5G band each telecom operator in India will use so it’s better to have them all. And the fact that when you start travelling again in 2021, you don’t have to worry about the Global 5G bands as your Moto g 5G will have it all.

That’s not all! The moto g 5G comes with 4X4 MIMO & Carrier Aggregation support that ensures blazing-fast network performance and the fastest possible data speeds. On the other hand, the OnePlus Nord 5G supports only 5 5G network bands and does not claim to have Carrier Aggregation.

In layman terms, Carrier Aggregation means combined speed from multiple channels as compared to single-channel on traditional connectivity.

LTE Carrier Aggregation

Moving on the Battery, not just on paper but also in real-world usage the Moto g 5g lasted us almost double the Nord 5G. And that is because moto g 5G not only has a battery that is physically 20% larger than the 4115mAh battery on the Nord 5G. But also has a more power-efficient SoC combined with better software optimization. And thanks to that the 5000 mAh battery on the moto g 5G will easily give you over 2 days of battery life.

I have already mentioned that the G series has stood the test of time. That said the Moto g 5G has another upper hand over the Nord 5G and that is the fact that moto g 5G comes with IP52 rated protection from water and dust whereas the Nord 5G does not claim any IP protection. So not only you are getting a better performing smartphone but also a less worry smartphone thanks to the IP52 rating.

Now having a great battery and processor also needs a good display to enjoy content on and you will happy to learn that the moto g 5G has a bigger 6.7” display as compared to the 6.44” display on the Nord 5G. Both the devices get HDR10 certified displays but Moto g 5G offers more screen real estate.

Now when everything is more than the competition than why should you settle for less in terms of the storage. Keeping that in mind, the moto g 5G gets an option of an expandable 1TB storage with a MicroSD card. On the other hand, OnePlus Nord 5G does not have a MicroSD card slot to expand the storage.

But what about the cameras? Both these smartphones come with a 48MP primary camera sensor and are at par with each other even though the Nord 5G has an additional depth sensor. Thanks to the more advanced ISP and depth processing on the Moto g 5G you would not feel the lack of depth sensor.

And now what truly defines the experience of using the smartphone – the software. There is no second thought about that Motorola offers the best near stock android experience on its smartphones. With the added enhancements of Moto Actions and Gestures. On the other hand, OnePlus always feels half-baked with all the bugs that come along Oxygen OS.

Finally to the deciding factor, the price – even though the moto g 5G is a better device than the Nord 5G in most aspects, the cherry on the cake is that it is the most affordable and the most desirable 5G smartphone in India with incredible pricing of just Rs ₹20,999. Yes, we all were rubbing our eyes in disbelief when we got to know about this exceptional pricing by Motorola India.

And with a ₹1000 instant discount on HDFC Bank Debit and Credit Cards you can get the moto g 5G at just Rs. 19,999 which makes it an unbeatable deal!
