Netflix gets support for Spatial Audio for iOS and iPad OS. Yes, you heard that correctly. This is one of those features that was being requested a lot by Netflix users on iOS and has been finally made available. If you’re an Audiophile then this is one of the best things that has happened this year after the introduction of Lossless Quality Music in Apple Music.

In a blog post, Apple describes “Spatial audio with dynamic head tracking brings the movie theater experience right to your AirPods Pro. By applying directional audio filters and subtly adjusting the frequencies each ear receives, spatial audio can place sounds virtually anywhere in space, creating an immersive surround sound experience. Using the gyroscope and accelerometer in your AirPods Pro and your iPhone, spatial audio tracks the motion of your head as well as your device, compares the motion data, and then remaps the sound field so that it stays anchored to your device even as your head moves.”

Netflix App for both iOS

This update is available for devices running iOS 14 and managing Spatial Audio is located in the Control Center. One thing to note is that the spatial audio feature is exclusive to AirPods Pro and AirPods Max only. As you can see from the screenshot attached above, to make the feature work, one needs to turn on the Spatial Audio toggle.

Upon enabling this, we did find a difference in terms of the Audio quality, and if you have an iPhone/iPad with the AirPods Pro or Max, then turning this on is worth it. Now a lot of people might now get it instantly, but it is said to be rolling out to everyone slowly.
