What is 123Pay: How to use UPI without internet – Explained

UPI or Unified Payments Interface is becoming very popular in India as they are fast, safe & secure, convenient and can be done at fingertips with the help of a smartphone. However, the UPI for feature phones never really came into the mainstream. But, to change that, RBI has now introduced 123Pay which is set to revolutionize UPI in India for feature phone users. So, in this article, we have explained what is 123Pay and how to use UPI without the internet. 

What is 123Pay?

123Pay is a three-step method to initiate and execute UPI transactions for feature phone users. This is aimed at benefitting 40 crore feature phone users in the country. Till now, UPI payments were possible only for smartphone users and USSD-based service for feature phones. But, as per the Reserve Bank of India, the new 123Pay UPI system will transform the sector in India.

The 123Pay UPI system will allow the feature phone users to make transactions in four ways. They are by using app functionality in feature phones, missed call function, proximity sound-based payments and the most important of them all, by calling an interactive voice response (IVR). The IVR process is explained below.

How to use 123Pay (UPI without internet)? 

  • Dial the IVR number 08045163666 on your feature phone.
  • On the IVR menu, select your preferred language.
  • Choose the bank linked with UPI and press ‘1’ to confirm details.
  • Now, Press ‘1’ to send money by using your mobile number.
  • Enter the mobile number of the recipient and confirm.
  • Now, enter the amount that you want to transfer.
  • Enter your UPI PIN and your payment is done.
