Samsung Electronics will expand its Galaxy Gear compatibility to six Samsung Galaxy smartphones in India through a software update. The schedule for software update will vary for each device. The Galaxy Gear compatibility software is already available for Galaxy S4 users and will be rolled out for Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note II, Galaxy S4 mini, Galaxy Mega 5.8 and Galaxy S4 zoom users through separate software updates in the month of November.

“The Galaxy Gear is designed and optimized for use with other Galaxy devices to create a seamless experience for our users. Extending the Galaxy Gear compatibility to six Galaxy devices reflects our commitment to delivering more Samsung smartphone users with enhanced flexibility and freedom, thus enriching their mobile experience,” said Vineet Taneja, Country Head, Mobiles at Samsung Electronics.

A perfect companion device that makes mobile communication easier and more enjoyable, the Galaxy Gear enables compatible Samsung handsets users to make or answer calls and view incoming messages at a glance without having to lift their smartphone. For a closer look at more important messages, users can enjoy instant connection from the Galaxy Gear to the phone through the “Smart Relay” feature. “Smart Relay” allows for seamless connection between the Galaxy Gear and Galaxy devices. For example, if a user starts reading an email on the Galaxy Gear but wants to switch to the larger screen, Smart Relay automatically switches the smartphone screen on to the exact location of the email where the user was reading on the Galaxy Gear.
With a 1.9 Megapixel camera, users can snap an image or record a 10 second video which automatically gets saved in the smartphone’s gallery. The Galaxy Gear is also designed for consumers with an active lifestyle as it packs an in-built pedometer that enables users to measure their step. Furthermore, the pedometer will work even when the device is not connected to the phone. Of course, the Galaxy Gear also functions like a full featured watch, with the option to change its face with 10 different alternatives and even more choices available via Samsung Apps.
The Samsung Gear is available in the Indian market for Rs. 22,990/-, while the Galaxy Smartphones (Galaxy S4 Mini, Galaxy Mega 5.8, Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4 zoom, Galaxy Note II, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3) are priced between Rs. 23,500/- to Rs 49,900/-.
