Gas-Vs-Electric-Water-Heaters

If we conduct a survey about which electrical home appliance did you last research about then Water Heater or Electric Geyser would never be on that list. It’s an irony that the most important home appliance is never discussed or researched about. Just think about how you cannot complete your day in winters without a water heater starting from the very first thing you do in the day – Bathing. Then once you are ready you need to have breakfast, where you would again need a water heater to cook and then rinse the utensils. And, it goes on till you hit the bed again in various forms like washing clothes, drinking etc.

Now, don’t you agree that Water Heaters are one of the most important appliances in the household? We all know what a water heater does and its uses. So, let’s dig a little deeper and find out the types of water heaters that one can buy.

Yes, they come in many shapes and sizes, but did you know that there are different types of Water Heaters based on the resources they use?

First and the most common type of water heaters are electric water heaters which are being used in most households in India. The electric water heaters can be further classified into two main categories – Storage and Instant. As the name suggests, Storage type lets one store hot water in its tank, which can be anywhere between 6L to 50L depending on the requirements. Apart from the storage capacity, you can also select the pressure withstanding capacity which can be 6-8 bar depending on which floor you stay on. The electric storage water heaters work well for large families with more hot water requirement. On the other hand, Instant water heaters usually come in capacities of 1-3 litres and provide hot water on demand. However, they are ideally suited for small families, kitchens and other applications like shaving which require less water.

The best thing about electric storage or instant water heaters is the availability of different designs and capacities so that you can choose the one that meets your needs. Whether you have a large bathroom or a small one, whether you are a nuclear family or a large one, you can easily find an electric geyser catering to your exact requirements.

The second and less common version of water heaters is the Gas type which runs on LPG/PNG and is quite cost-effective. The gas geysers are good for use in areas that have no power supply or face regular power cuts. Also, they heat up water instantly just like the instant type and provide a ready flow of hot water. The gas water heaters are ideally suited for large families. Having said so, if your bathroom is limited on space and there is no ventilation, I would suggest not to go for gas water heaters owing to safety.

Both, the water heater types serve the same purpose of heating water but have different use case scenarios.

For example, if you live in an area where there is frequent electricity failure then a water heater like Orient Vento Gas Water Heater is the obvious choice.

And, if electricity is not an issue then you can choose between an instant water like Orient Aura Plus or a storage one like the Orient Zesto.

Usually, in a typical household setup, Instant Water heaters are installed in Kitchens. Whereas, the huge capacity, storage ones are installed in bathrooms.
