MediaTek Helio G80 Gaming SoC With HyperEngine Technology Announced

MediaTek has announced a new game-centric chipset for smartphones in its ‘G series’. Today, the company unveiled Helio G70 and G80 mobile gaming-focused processors. Although the G70 was announced last month, the G80 is a superior version of the G70 with HyperEngine game technology, advanced multi-camera and unrivaled connectivity for uninterrupted gameplay. The new chipsets will power smartphone brands that will first hit the market in India, later this month.

Back in July 2019, MediaTek had announced Helio G90 and G90T chipsets with HyperEngine Game Technology. Both chipsets support HyperEngine game technology and come with Intelligent Speed Uplift for Rapid Gameplay and Call & Data Concurrency – When the Wi-Fi signal is weak, the technology intelligently triggers Wi-Fi & LTE concurrency within 13 milliseconds.

AI-Camera 

Fast AI performance boosts popular AI-camera tasks such as object recognition (Google Lens), Smart Photo Album, scene detection and segmentation with background removal, as well as Bokeh-shot enhancements. With MediaTek NeuroPilot support and full compliance with Android Neural Networks API (Android NNAPI), developers and device makers have support for many common AI frameworks, creating the best possible ecosystem for Android enhancements and app development.

Multi-Camera Photography

The MediaTek Helio G80 enables brands to mix up multi-camera systems that use a wide-angle, telescopic, macro or other lens setups to create differentiated smartphone options. Building on generations of photographic excellence in MediaTek Helio, the G80 includes a multitude of a hardware accelerators, such as a dedicated depth engine, Camera Control Unit (CCU), Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) and Rolling Shutter Compensation (RSC) technology that enhances video panning and ultra-fast recording (up to 240fps).

Integrated Voice on Wakeup

The MediaTek Helio G80 also builds in VoW (voice on wakeup) capability, which optimizes platform size and minimizes power use for voice assistant services.

Highly Accurate Positioning Engine

The Inertial navigation engine provides a more accurate location when indoors, underground or driving through tunnels and other situations when GNSS services are unavailable. With the ability to understand its orientation and direction the G80 can be placed or held in any position.
