With increasing rumours that the South Korean tech giant LG might get out of the smartphone market altogether rather than make a few phones this year, the company on Friday launched the LG K42 phone in the Indian market. According to the company, the phone has passed the Mil-Std 810G test to prove that it can handle whatever is thrown at the phone.

The phone is so sturdy that it passed the nine categories of the US Military Defence Standard, including high temperature, low temperature,, vibration, shock, humidity amongst other tests.

Commenting on this release, Advait Vaidya, Business Head- Mobiles, LG India said:  “We are confident that the K42 will be a game-changer in the category and deliver an elevated experience to our consumers. We are firmly committed to the Make-in-India vision and the LGK42 will be made in India.”

In terms of the other specifications, the phone comes with a 6.6-inch display with a resolution of HD+. There is a punch-hole cut out to the top, which gives the device a modern appearance, despite its rugged capabilities. The display is enclosed in a mil 810G certified build to the back, complete with a wavy pattern that makes the phone rugged and provides additional grip as an added bonus.

There is also LG’s UV coating, which ensures resistance against scratches and scruffs. A dedicated assistant button also appears on the side, which can also act as a trigger for LG’s Visual Snapshot interface.

As for the performance side of things, the device is powered by the MediaTek Helio P23 chipset, coupled with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. In terms of the optics, there is a quad-camera stack to the back, with a primary 13-megapixel sensor, accompanied by a 5-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, a 2-megapixel depth sensor and a final 2-megapixel macro sensor. To the front, there is an 8-megapixel selfie snapper.

To power the device, there is a decently sized 4000mAh battery with USB Type-C based charging.

The LG K42 is available for purchase through Flipkart in a single variant with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, which is priced at Rs 10,990. The colour variants on offer include Grey and Green, so one has the option to choose from two subtle hues on the K42.
