Netflix for the past couple of months has been working very hard behind the doors providing new features to the users. Recently, Netflix announced Screamfest where the company will be offering original shows and movies to Indian users for a couple of days for free starting next month. Now, according to the latest APK teardown by the folks over at XDADevelopers, the company is working on adding a new feature: background audio playback.

APK Teardown: Teardowns are based on evidence found inside of APKs and are necessarily speculative and usually based on incomplete information. It’s possible that the guesses made here are wrong or inaccurate. Even when predictions are correct, there is always a chance that products could change or may be canceled. Much like rumors, nothing is certain until it’s officially announced and released.

The features discussed below are probably not live yet, or may only be live for a small percentage of users. Unless stated otherwise, don’t expect to see these features if you install the APK.

On tearing apart the APK and looking down deeper in the Netflix app version 7.79.1, folks have found evidence the app might soon let you listen to your favorite shows.

<string name="audio_mode_intro_tooltip_message">Save your data by turning off the video and listening to your favorite shows.</string>
<string name="audio_mode_tooltip_title">New</string>
<string name="audio_mode_video_off_tooltip_message">The video is off, but you can continue listening to your show while you are busy doing other things.</string>

Going by the comments mentioned the background audio feature can come in handy when one can’t afford to stare at your screen but instead would like to just focus on the audio. With this, users will be able to listen to your Netflix shows just as in the case with podcasts.

As of now, there is no information as to then this feature would roll out. Stay tuned to TheUnbiasedBlog for more information
